Do you think you might like to teach?  Below are the answers to Frequently Asked Questions.

Who can teach classes?

Anyone!   We plan to have teachers from a wide variety of backgrounds at The People’s School.  The vast majority of our teachers will be folks who have never taught and just have a passion to share their hobby with others.   Some will be professionals who are lucky enough to be work in a field that they are so passionate about that they want to share the basics with others.  Some will even be professional teachers who have a passion to teach a class that doesn't fit into a traditional school setting because it is to basic for degree seeking students or just inappropriate for a formal education setting.  Many of our classes will serve as introductions to topics that students might want to pursue in more detail in a formal setting.

Can I teach anything?

Almost anything.  It must be legal.   Also, we will not host classes that are either very similar to classes already offered by The People’s School (unless those other classes are generally full) or classes that we feel will not be well attended.   The staff of The People’s School has final approval of all approved classes, but if your class is not accepted upon the first submission they will be happy to work with you to prepare your class for future class sessions.

Do I get paid to teach?

You can, it’s really up to you.  We encourage our teachers to keep their prices very low on a per student bases.    None of the classes offered at The People’s School are entirely free.  The School charges $5 to each student to pay for administrative expenses.  Teachers can choose to charge as little as Zero and as much as they feel appropriate.  We encourage all potential teachers to keep their per student charge between $0 and $15 per student (with most asking $5 per student).  If you feel that you must have more than that per student, the staff will work with you to see if we feel that the community will support the proposed class at the higher charge.    No individual is getting rich in this project, but we hope you agree that the community is richer for all of our efforts.

Where will my class be held?

We have a number of community partners who have offered class space to The People’s School.   If you need space, let us know and we’ll find you space.  If you have the ideal space, then you are encourage to host the class there.  For example, if you are teaching a class on maintaining your own greenhouse, it would make sense for you to host the class in your greenhouse!

What do I need to do to start a class?

First you need to fill out a proposed class form.   You can fill this form out online at this link and there are details to how to fill the form out at this link.   Once we get the details of the proposed class, we will contact you for any additional information.   Please don’t hesitate, there is someone out there who is anxious to learn what you have to teach!

Can I teach the same class for multiple sessions?

We love to keep offering popular classes, so yes yes yes!
